strategic thinking

Governors play a vital role in representing the beneficiaries of the college - the community served by the college - but must also ensure that the college's strategic objectives take into account the complex and changing wider regional, national and international environments in which the college operates.

A key role for governors is to decide what kind of institution they want and to ensure that it is delivered; this requires strategic planning and a strategic plan.  In pursuit of this
  • governors determine the strategic objectives that the strategic plan is designed to achieve
  • managers undertake the detailed planning and its implementation
  • governors monitor that the planning process is properly managed
  • governors evaluate the progress of strategic priorities and the extent to which they have been successfully accomplished
