standing orders

The rules and procedures of the governing board are set out in its Standing Orders, which determine how business is conducted.

Standing Orders might include rules covering
  • membership
  • quoracy
  • the holding and organisation of meetings
  • the appointment of the chair
  • the procedure for drawing up the agenda
  • the work of committees or task groups
  • the behaviour of members at meetings
Standing Orders are designed to enable meetings of the governing board and its committees to work smoothly, not to be restrictive, negative or bureaucratic.
