ICSA Certificate in Further Education Governance
Who should attend? This programme is suitable for the Clerk to the Corporation, an experienced Deputy Clerk to the Corporation and anyone aspiring to become more knowledgeable and effective in further education governance who already has experience of governance practices in further education, sixth form, land based, or specialist colleges. There is no specific prior-entry qualification, however participants will be invited to complete a pre-course questionnaire outlining their expertise and experience in this field. The learning approach is interactive with a combination of case study, presentation, role-play, self-managed learning, online resources and e-mail discussion forums. The course is delivered in an introductory day, followed by three two-day residential workshops. The award is achieved through successful completion of three written assignments and a final examination. About the qualification:

The programme will: Increase knowledge and understanding of the corporate governance and legal framework in which FE colleges operate. • Build an understanding of the critical links between FE college governing boards, senior managers, FE college staff and the Clerk to the Corporation.
• Develop confidence in handling complex information, appraising situations, interpreting data and advising governors.
• Apply sound judgment to advice given to governors.
• Analyze group dynamics and develop behavioral skills to develop the clerk as a manager and leader of good governance.
• A recognised qualification which can be useful for career progression and your further professional development.
