Governance Associates
Call for associates for CEL's leadership Skills for Governance Programme
CEL is seeking to recruit a number of associates to assist in the design and delivery of some governor, governing body and clerk training courses and 1-2-1 bespoke governor mentoring/coaching. Successful applicants will work as part of the Leadership Skills for Governance (LSG) team at CEL.
Roles and Responsibilities
These positions will be recruited on a consultancy basis and not as employees of CEL. This means that associate trainers and consultants will be mostly classed as 'self-employed' and therefore not entitled to join CEL's superannuation scheme. In all other respects the associate trainers and consultants will be treated as team members of the LSG section and the same expectations of quality of work and code of conduct will apply, since they will be representatives of CEL.
Associates will be expected to deliver ready-made LSG training packages to governors. Suitably experienced applicants may be asked to participate in the review and writing of these packages.
Training sessions can occur at any time of the day or evening, Monday to Friday, and anywhere in England. Occasionally, Saturday sessions are commissioned. A set number of sessions cannot be guaranteed. Associates will be expected to negotiate their personal availability with the LSG team.
In some cases associates and consultants may be requested to develop a piece of work or revise a course on behalf of CEL and will be paid development time accordingly. CEL retains the ownership and copyright of all material used in its LSG training.
Induction and Supervision
Induction training and support will be available to associates. The aims of this will be to familiarise associates with the LSG team of staff, CEL's philosophy and values, expectations of associates, and equipment and materials. It will also help the LSG team to determine availability and particular expertise of associates.
Associates (as with all people working for, or on behalf of, CEL) will receive supervision and support. This will enable individuals to feedback their views to the LSG team, which will contribute to ongoing development of effective provision. Supervision will also include quality standards checks and judgements being made on an associate's work. Evaluations by governor course participants, coachees, and mentees will be taken into consideration and occasional observation of a session may take place.
